The small fishing village of Polperro in Cornwall nowadays lands more holidaymakers than fish on its shores but the old fishing market and harbour are still active, the lobster pots and nets lie piled up on the quayside provide colourful photo opportunities as well as a practical need.  Polperro is a cottage holiday destination for anyone who might enjoy wandering the narrow lanes surrounding the harbour, or who would like to walk the coastal path for great views of the Cornish coast. There are shops that still sell Cornish pixie souvenirs and yet there is progress, Cornish pasties are made with a variety of savoury and fruit fillings and Cornish ice cream in numerous flavours in addition to vanilla. For traditionalists, there are still plenty of restaurants for the very freshest fish and chips, lobster, crab and shellfish.  Enjoy browsing for coastal cottages, seaside cottages and self catering accommodation in and near Polperro.

A sail out to sea on one of the sailing boats could be just the thing after a hearty lunch. Sit on a boat and enjoy the scenery without walking or driving down the narrow lanes in fear and trepidation of meeting another vehicle and nowhere to pass. Such are many of the country lanes leading upwards from Polperro. This is country where GPS navigation systems develop a lunatic streak and send cars through lanes built for oxen and carts.

It is advisable to park at the large purpose built car park and either walk downhill to the harbour or catch one of the miniature trams that operate between the car park at the top end and the narrow harbour lanes, ferrying tourists up and down all day long.  If you do catch the tram both ways you would miss a couple of art galleries and one set of public toilets. There are more art galleries where the majority of small independent shops are congregated around the harbour.

Ideally, it is best to rent a holiday cottage in the town you would like to spend most time in. Polperro is quaint and picturesque but not much use for a beach holiday. It might suit people who would like to spend a good deal of time walking the coastal path and is excellent for anyone with a dog that they take on holiday, there are plenty of dogs welcome cottages in Cornwall to choose from.  One recommendation for anyone booking a seaside cottage in Cornwall is to make sure that it has a parking space of its own.   Country cottages in Cornwall generally have ample parking but it is still worth double checking to avoid jostling for parking spaces in mid summer.

The larger town of Looe is just four miles to the east along the  A387.
