Situated in the centre of Cornwall, Bodmin was historically the county town of Cornwall.

It boasted the county courts, a large jail and one of the first mental hospitals in Britain.   Although Truro has now taken over as the County's city, Bodmin still has a lot to offer.

The remains of the jail and the County Courts can be visited and the Bodmin Steam Railway is a must with rail enthusiasts. With a golf course, a leisure centre and a museum, there is much to see and do.

The old railway line from the moors to the sea, 18 miles in total, is a paradise for walkers, bird watchers and cyclists - bikes can be hired locally.

The National Trust has an outstanding property at Lanhydrock only four miles away, and Pencarrow House a mere three.
