Located along a quiet country lane, this unspoilt corner of Yorkshire was once part of the Wydale estate and the nearby Hall is still used as a retreat by the Diocese of York. It is a world away yet only a mile from the A170 Scarborough-Pickering road giving easy access to coast, moors, York and Vale of Pickering. Village Shops and pubs are only a few minutes drive away.

This interesting extremely comfortable thatched cottage, restored to the highest standard, with the accent on character, won the Isle of Wight Conservation Award for 2006. It is situated within the grounds of an historic manor house in 60 acres of beautiful downland with splendid views, in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Arreton in the Isle of Wight.

The cottage is south facing and very light and airy – cool in the summer and cosy in the winter. The large ground floor is open plan and has a terracotta tiled floor throughout. The sitting area has a fireplace housing an early Victorian cast iron stove. The kitchen has sold wood units with beech worktops, a built-in electric oven and hob and dishwasher. There is full oil central heating and a washing machine in the boiler room.

On the first floor, there are two double bedrooms. The main bedroom is double aspect and has an en-suite shower room/WC with a very large power shower. The second bedroom is ‘L’ shaped with twin beds that can be pushed together and has a separate bathroom/WC with a Victorian cast iron bath.

Stay in a detached 3 bedroom holiday cottage is in an idyllic secluded setting on the wooded hillside, overlooking the fields, just up the lane 100 yards from the farmhouse on an award winning organic farm, where we can accommodate additional persons on a B&B arrangement. Quality décor and furnishings, buttermilk emulsioned walls throughout.

There are walks from the door to the farm trail with ducks, donkeys and other animals, and on to the moors. If you are lucky, you might spot red door, foxes or badgers. Peacocks often visit the guests in the enclosed garden with terrace.

The Woodhouse is a Grade II* Listed semi-moated medieval hall-house, from the first part of the C15th.

What remained of the original building was used to provide evidence for the restoration, which was guided by SPAB architect Andrew Thomas and executed largely by the owner, David Furnival. It was featured by the BBC on Radio 4’s Open Country and in The Observer in Feb. 2004. It is also mentioned in The National Commission for Historic Monuments, Pevsner's book on Herfordshire.

The cottages sleeps 8 people in true historic style. There are four bedrooms; the Solar bedroom has a stunning king size medieval-style hanging bed with the hangings suspended from the roof timbers. Brignall Mill, near Barnard Castle, is an eighteenth century stone built watermill. Offering a totally tranquil stay, the Mill stands in an idyllic spot on the River Greta.
