Stay in a country cottage near Buxworth in Derbyshire to have a base near the Peak Forest Tramway Trail for hikers and close to the A6 approach to the Peak District. Buxworth is near Whaley Bridge and Buxton, towards the north westerly extremities of the Peak District National park, in the High Peak. View rural cottages, houses and apartments to rent for self-catering holidays in the area.

It is easy to confuse the name Buxworth with the large town of Buxton which is almost 10 miles to the south. All around is walking country and fabulous scenery. The Peak Forest Tramway Trail is a ten mile stretch of almost traffic free walking and cycling path that used to be part of a horse powered railway and canal system for transporting limestone.

Good holiday accommodation for hikers in the Peak District

Outdoors people tend to prefer self-catering accommodation to hotels or B&Bs because they feel more relaxed and at home in them. No one minds if you return in muddy boots or park a bicycle in the kitchen. Several of the cottages will have drying rooms for wet clothing and lockable bicycle sheds.
