Shopping on the main street is very pleasant, as is seeing the pleasure craft moored in the historic harbour. All the family can go for a swim at Forest Leisure or in the Bathurst open air pool. Lydney Park Gardens and Roman Remains is a popular area destination, with beautiful displays of flowers and shrubs including azaleas and rhododendrons in the large woodland garden. Archaeological digs on the estate revealed the ruins of a Roman temple and a Norman castle. Lydney Railway Station is on a line that serves the Dean Forest Railway, where passengers can ride steam trains or diesel trains, board ‘Santa Specials’ and enjoy other special events. You can also see historic artefacts at the Dean Railway Museum whilst on your self-catering break.
