York is supposedly one of the most haunted cities in Britain.  If you cannot experience a ghostly presence here then you probably will not anywhere.  Your eloquent and informed guide will introduce you to the ghosts known to frequent various areas with their mysterious presence and to feel the vibes.  Highly recommended for some great fun and an experience into the world of suggestion.  Several tours operate, all charging full fees for adults and concessions for children and OAPs. Booking is generally not required, you just join the group at the starting point at the right time, although certain companies do offer group discounts.

The World Tour of York

An entertaining Guided Walk which tells the story of York through its 2000 years of history. From the rugged swamplands that the Romans conquered in AD 71, to the vibrant City of Festivals in the 21st Century.

Public Tours operate every Friday and Saturday at 11am and 2pm from St Helens Square with a reduction for students and over 60’s. Under 16’s are free.

Historical Tours

Yorkwalk - Meet at the Museum Garden gates near Museum Street at 10.30 am, 2.15 pm and 7.30 pm.  A selection of  more down-to-earth guided tour which focus on the history of York.  Choose from the Walls Walk,  Roman, Essential York, Snickelways or Secret York.  Walks last from 1.5 - 2 hours , children under 6 are free.  Telephone: 01904 622303 for details of special walks.

Free walking tours: Meet at the Art Gallery in Exhibition Square at 10.15 am, ( plus 2.15 pm. or 7.00 pm during the summer months) for a free daily walking tour organised by the Association of Voluntary Guides to the City of York.  These run every day of the week except Christmas Day.  You do not need to book beforehand - just turn up and join the group. Additional tours may be arranged during the summer months.
