Billericay is a 'middle England' town with a good railway link in to London (about 30 minutes train journey) and a smart high street.  On Billericay High Street you will find a number of restaurants and bars.  Billericay is a good choice for a self-catering holiday if you want a reasonably central Essex base and want the freedom to take the train into London to sightsee or visit the theatre or an exhibition. Road and rail connections with other Essex towns are excellent. The trainline goes through to Southend on Sea for fun days at the seaside, theatres and casino. A couple of miles away from Billericay is Brentwood and the Brentwood Arena where regular performances are held. 

Other nearby towns are Basildon which has excellent good value shops and Chelmsford, both of which offer clubs, cinemas, leisure centres and very good shopping centres. Lakeside in Essex is a big shopping centre and retail park selling everything that anyone could possibly desire. Places to visit in or near Billericay are bluebell woods in late spring and Barleylands Open Farm and a Craft Centre where visitors can watch glass blowing and other craftsmen at work, and even paint a pot themselves.
