Self-catering holiday cottages in County Durham, UK

County Durham in the  north east of England is one of those places that people do not necessarily associate with holidays and yet it is a fabulous location for a fascinating sightseeing, walking and touring holiday.

Most of us are aware that the further north we travel in England, the more rugged the landscapes become and the people friendlier. There are great expanses of moor and wilderness in County Durham, perfect for long walks to chase away any cobwebs.

The City of Durham is a great place to visit, even for a day trip. Durham Cathedral is vast and impressive, the imposing castle has now been adapted to a new use as halls of residence for students but still worthy of admiration from the outside. The shopping centre is compact and offers a good selection of shops and places to eat. The city has a youthful and vibrant atmosphere, partly due to the large numbers of students swelling the local population during term time. There is always a happening of one kind or another.

There are also numerous visitor attractions in the area for days out.
