Chipping Norton, on the edge of the Cotswolds and north west of Oxford on the A44 is a former prosperous wool town. Many attractive period buildings give the town an olde worlde character. It's very popular with visitors to the Cotswolds and offers all the usual tea shops, hotels, pubs and restaurants. There are numerous places of interest for tourists including a standing stone circle just two miles out of Chipping Norton with apparently special powers, a former textile mill - the Bliss Valley Tweed Mill with a gigantic chimney and domed roof, almshouses, a 13th century church, and a museum. The annual September Mop Fair originates from King John's charter for a wool fair. Chipping Norton is also the highest town in Oxfordshire.
