British seaside holidaysBritish seaside holidays in self-catering cottages - good for families with young children; there's nothing like a paddle in the sea and building sand castles on the beach.

The holiday cottages, log cabins and lodges shown below are all booked directly with owners or their management companies for best deals.

As a rough guide, the largest seaside resorts such as Blackpool, Southend-on-Sea, Great Yarmouth, Brighton are in in England. There are plenty of smaller less commercial seaside resorts in East Anglia, the West Country, Isle of Wight and the East Coast.

Go north for naturally clean beaches and wildlife. It may not be as warm but you may be fortunate. The scenery, old fishing villages and harbours and hidden coves compensate for the weather. Fake tan is an easier and safer way of acquiring that golden glow than damaging skin by baking for hours on a beach.

Please click on a cottage image to find out more about each of the holiday cottages near the seaside. The Cottage search form allows you to tick family friendly facilities so that your family is properly catered for, or if you add the cottages you like to a Shortlist as you browse, you will be able to send one email that is sent to all on your shortlist to get best prices for the dates you require.

Britain offers a large number of seaside resorts and beaches and the further north you go, on the whole, the quieter and more unspoiled the beaches are. Young children demand no more than a safe stretch of sand and water. Older children like funfair rides and a little more stimulation but it does not harm to show the children something different during a seaside holiday and introduce them to nature, buried villages and shipwrecks.
