The small market town of Atherstone sits on the old Roman Watling Street (A5). Hatting was the traditional industry for the town but this finished some time ago, being replaced by small industrial estates and distribution centres. The town has a historic centre based around St. Mary's Church and the Market Square where open markets are held on Tuesdays and Fridays.
