Newark is a pleasant thriving market town with a well-known antiques centre. Antique fairs are held regularly in the area. Nottingham is a short drive away with its bustling shopping centres, Wollaton park, Nottingham Castle museum and various tourist attractions. Sherwood Forest with walks, the Go Ape aerial adventure, and visitor centre also within easy driving distance. Southwell with its cathedral or Minster and National Trust Workhouse are worth a visit. Belvoir Castle offers events including Steam fairs, historical re-enactments throughout the year.

Travel: Newark Station, 6 miles

Good places to visit: Newstead Abbey. Southwell for Minster and NT Workhouse. Stamford for Burghley Hall, Lincoln for cathedral.
