Self-catering
accommodation and cottage holidays in the Lake District of Cumbria,
England
Carved
by the last great Ice Age, the serene lakes of Cumbria
lie cradled by the brooding hills. The scenery is breathtaking
- landscapes where you can only stand and stare surround you on
all sides. Broad fells dotted with sheep, wild ponies on the
moors, a profusion of wild flowers and complete peace. A place
to refresh your soul.
Our
English poets drew inspiration from this land. William
Wordsworth began Britain's love affair with the Lake District in the
19th Century and it has passed down the generations. Countless
visitors still follow in his footsteps. Wordsworth described
poetry as 'the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings arising
from emotion recollected in tranquillity'. When you visit
the Lake District you will understand.

| Woolpack
Cottage -upper Eskdale, Lake District, sleeps 6 |
|
Set
in the tranquil valley of upper Eskdale, Woolpack Farm Cottage
has been tastefully refurbished over the past couple of
years. From the hallway is a traditional farmhouse kitchen
with its dining area and aga. It also has all the appliances
that make modern life easy – microwave, dishwasher, fridge,
freezer, and underfloor heating which warms up the slate
flags.
There is a huge utility room next door with washing machine
and tumble drier. The sitting room is heated by an electric
fire and has Sky TV, video and hifi system. French windows
lead out to the patio outside. Upstairs there are three
bedrooms – two have double beds and the third has twin beds.
There are two bathrooms – one with a bath (with a shower
over it), the other with a large shower. Outside
there is a huge area for parking, playing and having BBQs.
The views are stunning. From the cottage there are hundreds
of walks – either on the fells or along the banks of the
River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley
down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village
complete with a ruined Roman bath-house! The river has natural
pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and
for fishing. The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature
Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains leisurely
making the seven mile journey down to the sea. The Woolpack
Inn is a 2 minute walk away and serves good food and real
ales. Boot village with its small shop, the Burnmoor Inn
and Poachers Bar (both of which also serve food and real
ale) is around a twenty minute walk. Eskdale also has a
village shop which sells groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables,
food to go, alcohol and newspapers.
