Built in the mid 19C, the cottage’s name derives from its origins as the store for lanterns used to light the carriages that once stopped here at the White Hart Inn. Thankfully the main road no longer goes through the village but Old Coach Road was originally the main route from Cornwall to London. The Inn itself is reputedly haunted by the ghost of Judge Jeffries and his victims - the current landlord will tell tales of strange goings on as he pulls your excellent pint.
