Flint Cottage provides an ideal base for exploring the unspoilt Suffolk countryside and the county’s popular towns and villages, and the many attractions of East Anglia during a summer holiday or a winter break.

The accommodation in the cottage:

  • The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, with crisp cotton bedlinen and plenty of pillows. Each of the bedrooms has a built-in wardrobe, plenty of drawer-space, lamps, an alram-clock and a hairdryer. One of the bedrooms has a double bed, and the other has a kingsize (5') double.
  • The kitchen has quaint period features (such as the hand-made pine dresser with period memorabilia) and is fully equipped for modern living with all essentials - plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots & pans, and a good range of utensils/accessories; kettle, toaster, coffee-maker, large fridge-freezer, and washer/dryer.
  • The bathroom has a full-length bath, plus a power-shower over the bath. There is also a shaver-point. Large, soft towels are provided!
  • The log-burner in the living room is perfect for romantic Valentine's Breaks, or relaxing breaks in autumn or winter.
  • The sunny dining room overlooks the pretty Courtyard garden - perfect view at breakfast
  • The (private) Courtyard garden is made colourful in summer with flowering patio-plants, and there is a table, chairs & parasol - perfect for lazy mornings with coffee and the newspapers, al fresco lunches, or pre-dinner dirnks of a summer's evening.

Flint Cottage is just 500 yards from the town, where there are interesting independent shops to browse around plus those catering for all essentials - a baker (the bread and cakes are baked here in the town!), an excellent butchers (selling traditionally-reared Suffolk pork and handmade sausages), a fish-stall (with fresh fish and crab from Lowestoft), a (WAITROSE) supermarket, several cafes, pubs, and an award-winning restaurant (featured in the Guardian, Independent, Telegraph and Good Food Guides). Just outside of town (about 1 mile) is our local Farm Shop, where you'll find a wide range of locally-grown seasonal produce.

A 'Welcome Pack' on arrival, plus initial supplies of tea, coffee, etc., and fresh milk in the fridge.

Changeover Day: Flexible

Flint Cottage is just 30 mins drive from the sandy beach at Southwold (famous for its lighthouse, pier and colourful beach huts), the popular coastal town of Aldeburgh (from where to watch the yachts race during the Summer Regatta), the pretty riverside town of Woodbridge, the English Heritage castles at Framlingham and Orford.... There is so much to see and do in the area, you’ll want to come back time and time again! The gently undulating terrain of the Suffolk countryside is perfect for walking or cycling, and for bird watchers... RSPB Minsmere is just 6 miles away, close to Dunwich. You can learn about Dunwich: the 'town which fell into the sea' at the museum in the village, and Dunwich Heath is stunning - a designated AONB ('Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'), it has its own stretch of quiet beach and open-air theatre is held on the heath itself each summer. Saxmundham has an excellent public transport service, with trains/buses to most attractions and popular places of interest.

Travel: Flint Cottage is very easy to find. Its less than 1 mile from the A12 - between Lowestoft (to the north), and Ipswich (to the south) - along the B119. It is approx 70 miles from Junction 28 of the M25 - approx 90 mins by car. Nearest railway station: S

Good places to visit: Flint Cottage is within 30 mins drive of most popular places of interest such as... Southwold, Aldeburgh, Woodbridge, Framlingham, Orford, Thorpeness, Walberswick... and also within easy reach of Beccles - for boating on the Broads. Flatford/Dedham Vale - 'Constable Country' - is only approx 45 mins drive. You'll be able to see for yourself where John Constable painted his famous 'Haywain'.

Annual Events: There are many regular events such as farmers' markets, and craft fairs; popular annual events such as the regattas, street carnivals, poetry, literature and music festivals - in November & March, plus numerous art galleries, museums and antique centres to browse around. There are even two vinyards, within 30 mins drive.

Good places to eat: There are far too many to list! But here are a couple of our personal favourites... The Bell: Saxmundham High Street - award-winning restaurant (featured in the Guardian, Independent, Times & Good Food Guides), Modern British (Anglo-French)-style food, set menus and A La Carte, Dinner from £20 a head. Plus the superb-value 'Market Lunch' menu - at just £10.00 for 3 courses. The Poacher's Pocket: Carlton, Saxmundham (10 mins drive or a pleasant 30 min walk through the Country Park) - family-run freehouse serving home-cooked food and real ales, in a relaxed and friendly manner. The Crossed Keys: Aldeburgh (8 miles, approx 15 mins drive) - serving traditional seaside/pub dishes, locally-caught fish & crab.

Saxmundham

A peaceful market-town, where its like stepping back in time to a quieter pace of life. Perfect for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There are quaint independent shops and galleries to browse around, and Saxmundham even has its own Museum. Saxmundham is also an excellent base from which to tour the area - just 30 mins drive from most place you'd want to visit during your stay, including: Southwold, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Orford, Framlingham, Woodbridge, Halesworth, Dunwich, Walberswick, etc.
