Old School Cottage - Great Hockham,

Old School Cottage is situated in the Breckland area. Breckland encompasses a vast area of forest and heathland on the borders of Norfolk and Suffolk, and it has, reputedly, the driest climate in the UK. Breckland offers great opportunities for the walker, cyclist and horse rider, with many way-marked trails in Thetford Forest and local nature reserves. But Breckland is also an ideal touring centre for visiting many other attractions of a different sort.

The area in and around Breckland was, in medieval times, one of the most prosperous in England; this is the reason why there so many interesting market towns and cities (i.e. Norwich, Bury St.Edmunds, Cambridge, Kings Lynn),stately homes (Oxburgh Hall, Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall, Anglesey Abbey, Wimpole Hall, Ickworth House, Melford Hall, Peckover House - all NT, and Castle Acre, Castle Rising, Audley End - all English Heritage), Sandringham, Holkham Hall and Houghton Hall, magnificent cathedrals (i.e. Ely, Norwich and Bury St.Edmunds), beautiful medieval churches ( - over 650 in Norfolk and many in Suffolk) and colourful towns and villages.

Also worth a mention are the world-renowned wildlife and nature reserves (including Welney (WWT), Snettisham and Titchfield (RSPB), Wicken Fen and Dunwich Heath (NT).

The Norfolk Coast and the Norfolk Broads are also within less than an hour's drive.
