PAINSWICK

The settlement of Painswick in Gloucestershire is an English gem in grey limestone: all pretty gables, mullioned windows and little streets built on the western slopes of a valley.  It is made up of former weavers cottages, notable Georgian town houses, and one-time cloth mills.  Gifts, antiques and collectables are to be found here, together with a permanent outlet for the 60-strong Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen.  The town also has a Blues Club, which regularly attracts famous musicians of the genre.  The annual Painswick Arts Festival takes place in November.
