Cotterill Farm Cottages - Buxton,

Cotterill Farm consists of five four star cottages on a non-working farm in a superb but not remote central Peak District country location. The cottages have been given the newly introduced 'Gold Award' by the English Tourism council for 'exceptional quality in all areas but in particular with regard to service' Three cottages are for four persons, and the other two are equally large cottages  but one (all on the ground floor and therefore particularly suitable for the less agile), sleeps three, and one sleeps only two.  The owners never rest on their laurels, constantly trying to improve fitments, furnishings and services offered - e.g. three cottages have full Sky tv, the others freeview, and all have internet wireless broadband. These are just examples, there are many other ways that things have been recently 'tweaked'!  The cottages have exposed beams and stone-work. The cottages are 300 yards up a private drive and form part of a courtyard facing outwards over the surrounding fields and dales to give excellent views and some degree of privacy. In front of these cottages is a large grassed and garden area. There is ample area for off-road parking for all cottages. The spacious two person cottage has a galleried bedroom overlooking the large living room, in the centre of which is a log burner standing on a stone plinth acting as a focal point It also has a five piece suite in the top quality bathroom.

In each cottages there are nine (!) highly organised information folders, partly written by the owners themselves who are lovers of the Peak. Guests have heaped praise on this source of information which ensures that even those who have stayed with us numerous times still find plenty new to do. Events lists are supplied in advance between May and September. Housekeeping and attention to detail is regarded by the owners, who strive to encourage return visits, as being of paramount importance (hence having been awarded an almost unheard of 100% in this respect in the grading process) as is their concern is to ensure guests have an excellent holiday.

High quality locally sourced breakfast packs are available at cost price (£10) during winter weekends and throughout the year ready made meals are available for purchase

Bicycle hire is available from the farm is available to those over 12 at roughly one half of the cost normally charged by commercial operators.

There are two wild flowers meadows managed under a Countyside Stewardship Scheme on our land, one of which borders a nature reserve leading after just over a mile to the Rive Dove (at Wolfscote Dale). One mile downstream is Dovedale. The cottages are located off a quiet country lane between the highly popular village of Hartington and its smaller, quieter neighbour, Biggin. Both villages have pubs serving full meals cafes and a church. There is also an excellent restaurants about a mile away. Biggin has a lovely Hall where excellent cream teas are sold. Numerous footpaths surround the land on which the cottages stand, offering unrivalled walking in the best part of the White Peak. The highly popular Tissington Trail, which runs for 17 miles, is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and is less than 1 mile from us. Two further trails, (both of similar distance), are within 3 miles. These three tracks are ideal for family cycling, as is the network of quiet minor roads, which can be accessed at numerous points along the trails.

The highly popular Tissington Trail, which runs for 17 miles, is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and is just 1 mile from the cottages. These former railway lines have much else to offer, not least quality views, but also interesting viaducts, steam beam engines and other remnants of the past. Lovely towns and villages to explore including our own village, Hartington with its famous creamery and cheese shop and duck pond, Youlgreave which has Englands smallest house at Thimble Hall, The lovely Ashford-in-the-Water with a gorgeously photographic 'sheepwash' bridge spanning the River Wye and the beautiful classic Haddon Hall near Bakewell, which probably surpasses even Chatsworth for its beauty. For Antique lovers, the market town of Ashbourne has numerous shops to keep an enthusiast lingering for hours.
