Find that perfect country cottage for 2 in Essex. North Essex is especially pretty. Visit lovely small villages, go shopping in the numerous shopping centres and indulge - you are on holiday so it's perfectly acceptable to treat yourself.

Surprisingly, Essex does culture in its own way. Constable Country in north Essex/Suffolk continues to receive visitors interested in the art of John Constable. The very pretty small villages with old medieval churches also assist. Rowing on the River Stour near Dedham is a very pleasant summer activity for couples. Take a picnic or eat at one of the numerous good food pubs and restaurants.

Chelmsford hosts annual musical festivals, an open air concert is also held at Audley End during the summer. Cultural events in Southend-on-Sea may be of interest. Southend is linked with a number of towns in Europe and days of shared music, art and dance are held throughout the year.
