Award Winning Oakpond Cottages are based in the quiet rural hamlet of Ightfield on the Cheshire/Shropshire border. The two cottages Oakpond (sleeps 6) and Oaktree the little sister to Oakpond sleeps 2 are both warm and cosy with fantastic views over the Shropshire countryside as well as the wildlife around the pond. The cottages are ideal for couples and families, for larger families that want both cottages or even visiting friends who just want peace and tranquility.
Oakpond Cottage is hidden in the 103 acres of Shropshire farmland on which we farm and graze cattle, the cattle graze around the cottages during summer. The cottage is found down its own private lane, which is only shared with the owners, you will be greeted by the pheasants which roam on the garden and Macey the farm dog. When you step inside the cottage, sit down and enjoy the views of the pond and the moorhens and ducks and its wildlife. There are over 60 tourist attractions to visit within reach, the cottage is only a 5 minute drive to a nature reserve and wood with plenty of walks locally. we have 12 cycle routes around us and lots of hill and canal walks. there are 3 fishing ponds locally and 3 golf couses which includes a championship course. Please see our website for further information.
Guests have described the cottages "Home From Home" with repeat bookings within 5 months of opening (April 10). Please see guests comments.

In North Shropshire, Whitchurch provides an excellent base for cycling, walking, fishing, visiting Ironbridge World Heritage Site, shopping visits to nearby Chester and Shrewsbury or exploring the Welsh Marches or Shropshire Lakes - all around half an hour's drive away.
Whitchurch is positioned on a Roman route to Chester and near a border that was fought over for many centuries, so there are many sites of historical interest in the area. Parking in the town centre is free and there are plenty of spaces. If you visit Victoria Park in the centre of town you will see several short walks taking you out of town and along canalside and into a nearby Country Park.
A walk to Grindly Brook Cafe is always worth it as the food there is great and you can sit and watch the canal boats in the locks. Nearby Hawkstone Park is popular with both young and old, although it is admittedly for the fitter amongst us. It is made up of intricate pathways, ravines, arches and bridges and King Arthur addressing his troops in the awesome caves. In nearby Wem we also have our very own 'Museum of Myth and Fable', Mythstories, where Shropshire's legends are brought to life. There are so many castles, gardens and Roman artifacts within easy travel distance in Shropshire, Wales and Cheshire and, for golfers, Whitchurch boasts two 18 hole courses at the MacDonald Hill Valley with others at Hawkstone Park and Carden Park. If that isn't enough, then how about horse riding, hovercrafting, canoeing, flying, ballooning - all within a comfortable drive's distance.
