Lifeguards watch over many of the beaches in summer, ensuring safe
relaxation for kids of all ages. Barafundle Bay in South Pembrokeshire
is a particularly beautiful beach, and Caerfai near
St. David’s was voted one of the finest beaches anywhere by
newspaper readers. Manorbier, Freshwater West and Newgale are three
of the best beaches for surfers amongst others.
Many delights await the
tourist in Pembrokeshire - it's ideal for nature lovers, the rocky
coastline and offshore islands make it a haven for sea birds. It's
even possible to see puffins, those colourful, comical birds with a large beak on Skomer Island, which is part of a marine nature reserve.
The number of visitors to the island each day is limited but a
wonderful treat for bird watchers. There are also 229 km of coastal
path for the more active visitor - but you don't have to walk it all
in one go!
But
if you are fit, or would like more of an activity holiday, Pembrokeshire
is just perfect. You will find purpose built cycle trail for cycling
in safety, there's horse riding, sailing, diving, wind surfing,
and sea cliff climbing for the really adventurous.
But if you just want to relax
with the occasional trip to a tourist attraction, then Pembrokeshire
has plenty of those on offer: Fishguards Ocean Lab, Oakwood, Welsh
Wildlife Centre... and an almost endless list suitable for families.
Pembrokeshire also has a rich
historical heritage with many castles that you can visit including
Carew, Castell Henllys Iron Age settlement, Haverfordwest 12th Century
Castle ruins, Llawhaden Castle which separated the Welsh speaking
north from the English speaking south, Pembroke Castle, the birthplace
of Henry VII, Picton Castle and Woodland gardens, Caldey Abbey on
Caldey island, the home of Cistercian monks makes for an interesting

contentedly. Access is within 10 minutes to the magnificent
Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Also, Porthllisky Bay with
its fascinating rock pools and clear waters for bathing.
