Isle of Wight The Cottage at Great East Standen Manor

This interesting thatched cottage, restored to the highest standard, with the accent on character, won the Island Conservation Award for 2006. It is situated within the grounds of an historic manor house in 60 acres of beautiful downland with splendid views, in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. At the entrance gate there is a large pond, so sit here for a while and feed the ducks. A bridle path leads to a network of footpaths and bridle paths that run across the island. You are welcome to bring your own horse, carriage and horse box, and enjoy the superb out-riding from the property. Alternatively, you might enjoy metal detecting on this site where there has been a house since the 13th century. Thatched 2 bedroom cottage with its own garden, and patio area with a BBQ, where you can sit and hear nothing but the birds. There is an abundance of wildlife – buzzards, owls, red squirrels, herons, badgers, stoats and foxes which make the cottage an ideal holiday haven for birdwatchers, photographers, painters as well as walkers and lovers of the peace, beauty and tranquillity of the countryside. Norfolk Hoste Barn

Old Manor Farmhouse is a fine Grade II listed 17th century wool merchant's manor house with its 17th century tithe barn, quietly situated in woodland and open farmland, not far from the National Trust's Blickling and Felbrigg estates and the private stately homes of Mannington and Wolterton. The farmhouse had fallen into derelict condition before being rescued in 1989 and sympathetically restored, winning the Graham Allen Award for Conservation in 1991. The toilet and shower room is downstairs. Electric heating is provided at no additional charge. No smoking is allowed inside this property. There are two pubs serving good food and real ale within walking distance and a village supermarket.
