Our cottages invite you to sample life in the enchanting and peaceful hamlet of Beacon, at the foot of National Trust’s Dumpdon Hill, nestling in the Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this is pastoral English countryside at its best and  looks almost the same today as it did hundreds of years ago. Mill View and Orchard Cottage (a timber-clad farm building conversion) each sleep 4 people and are mirror images of each other. They are set well back from the road with ample car parking space. Facing west at the rear onto meadowland, guests are virtually guaranteed glorious sunsets from their own patio. If the patio gets too hot, you can relax in the shade of the small orchard, where you will find additional seating - a very relaxing place to read a book or just take a well earned rest. Views of Thaxted's cathedral-like Church and windmill can also be enjoyed in the distance. Furnishings are comfortable and colour co-ordinated and for your convenience include hair dryer, iron, vacuum cleaner, clock radio, games, videos, music, etc and a welcome grocery pack to get you started. You will also find tourist information to help you plan your stay and make it more enjoyable. Each cottage has a substantial amount of holiday reading available on the shelves for those quieter moments. Lincolnshire Manor House Stables

The 'Manor House Stables' has been beautifully restored with natural earth-friendly materials using traditional methods.  Dating back to the 18th Century this Grade II Listed Stable Block now forms 2 units of qualitiy self-catering accommodation which can be rented separately or together.The ‘Hayloft’ is the newly restored first floor and is warm, welcoming and relaxing, with a wood- burning stove and cast iron radiators fed by a wood pellet boiler. The walls are insulated with battens of cotton and hemp and boards made of wood fibre whilst natural breathable paints and wood stains have been used on floors, doors and window frames. The large open plan living/kitchen area has exposed beams, lime-washed walls and real wood floors covered in braided wool rugs and recycled cotton mats. The sofa and chair coverings are cotton and linen – fabrics which are soft and natural and colours which are warm and earthy. A 26” HD ready TV and DVD/CD player and a selection of games, books and DVDs are all available for cosy nights in front of the fire. The kitchen is equipped with a Belfast sink, Rangemaster cooker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster and kettle as well as a range of quality kitchenware. A basket of organic veg freshly picked from the garden (or purchased from the local organic farm shop) awaits, along with other food items to ensure a relaxed and carefree break. Tucked away in a corner of the main room is a double 'box bed' - a bed boxed in by wood and enclosed by a curtain similar to those found in old-fashioned crofters' cottages and suitable for 2 children. The main bedroom has a double cast iron bed, small fireplace and a little en-suite bathroom with toilet and sink. The luxury mattresses are made of organic Welsh wool, the sheets are cotton (mostly organic) and the beds covered in bedspreads or quilts. The spacious main bathroom at the other end of the ‘Hayloft’ is a haven of peace and tranquility. Here you can soak in the deep copper bateau spa-bath whilst watching your favourite TV programme, relax in the sauna or freshen up in the steam shower. Chemical-free soaps and other luxuries are provided to make each stay a little more perfect...add to that chocolates, wine and fresh flowers and this is certain to be a very special break away. Recent visitors have separately said that the location is 'fantastic' and the cottage 'beautiful'. We are surrounded by fields and from the rear there is a gate that leads to the endless complex of footpaths and bridleways for which the area is renowned (to allow visitors to take advantage of the countryside we have provided a picnic hamper and freezer box). It is a haven for lovers of the countryside, walkers and people who enjoy the tranquillity it has to offer. Yet it is only a few miles away from a wealth of interesting towns, villages and access to the Norfolk Broads, all with something to offer. Newcastle, its International Airport and mainline Railway Station are only 30 minutes away. The most picturesque train route to Edinburgh takes an hour from Eshott's nearby station at Alnmouth.
