Cosy cottages

We all have our priorities when it comes to choosing county cottages for a holiday or weekend break.  Some of us like to get out and about and explore different parts of the uk so may have a particular region in mind, others want to get way but be able to take their dog, so look for pet-friendly cottages.

Almost all of the cottages that you will see on the website have central heating, some in addition to optional log fires for that cosy feel.

By clicking on any images of cottages shown below, you can examine their facilities and features to ensure that they have exactly what you require, or feel free to send us an email with  with a list of your requirements, e.g. cottages in the Cotswolds with central heating or log fires, proposed dates, and we will check availability for you and do our best to help.

A list of some cosy cottages is shown below:

Suffolk The Grove Cottages

Enjoy the romantic atmosphere of your own 300 year old English farm cottage. With all the lovely original features of ancient oak beams, a traditional baking oven and ‘copper kettle’, open log fires, original brick or wood floors, authentic farmhouse furniture, ducks, roses and a touch of luxury we bring alive the Romance of Rural Living. Surrounded by lovely Suffolk countryside, just 2 hours from London, our 6 very cosy cottages make up the old Grove Farm which is close to Lavenham, famous for being the prettiest medieval village in England. We are ideally situated for exploring the pretty villages of Suffolk and its coastline, or visiting London which is 50 minutes by train from the nearest mainline station. Despite being so close to London this county is very rural and until very recently rather inaccessible, this has helped preserve the lovely rural qualities and the tiny villages and hamlets that spread out across a spiders web of barely chartered byroads and country lanes. These beautiful villages are one of the great attractions for visitors to Suffolk, often beautifully preserved in all their Medieval splendour and many containing a rich history of the early pilgrims to America, in this tiny hamlet of Edwardstone the first future Govenor of Massachusetts set off to America. The grove cottages, which were formerly dairies, bakery’s and two farm workers cottages are built in a Monastic style ‘double quadrangle’, the buildings all date back to the early 17 hundreds, when they serviced a long lost Mansion House. All cottages are all totally self contained and very private, having entrances from totally different sides; they sleep from 2 to 6 people. Grove Cottages (sleep 2-6). Brewhouse Barn is a charming barn conversion nestled in a corner of the sought after village of Botesdale which rests on the Norfolk Suffolk border; an area of great natural beauty. The barn has recently undergone a complete transformation from a neglected 14th century timber framed brew house for the nearby pub into a cosy yet bright living space. It's excellent placement offers the convenience of a village along with country walks from the pretty village and a character pub specialising in real ales.

This snug accomodation serves as an ideal home for families, couples and singles. Weekend and short breaks may also be available.

Suffolk Groton Manor Farm

Groton Manor Farm is set in 3.5 acres of its own paddocks and garden with woodland to the west of the property.  We have recently converted old farm buildings, a former piggery, stables and cattle shed into a unique living space. A stay with us provides you with complete privacy we have two separate driveways but if you have any  questions or a problem we are just next door to help.   There is a spacious entrance hall that leads to the kitchen, dining/sitting area, a stunning 40ft by 15ft room with exposed oak and elm beams. Another door off the entrance hall takes you to the family bathroom, while yet another door takes you to the piggeries. The fully fitted kitchen has a range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and microwave. A large dining room table sits eight comfortably. The sitting area has two large sofas, an armchair and a squashy footstool providing plenty of places to relax with a view over the pond, double glazed doors take you on to the terraced walkway. There is also 37 inch flat screen TV (FreeView). At the west end of the sitting room a door leads you to the master bedroom suite with dressing room (can double as a nursery room) bedroom with king size bed, with adjoining bathroom with a shower, WC, washbasin and heated towel rail. You can lie in bed and see the sunrise from the east through the floor to ceiling double glazed doors that provide access to the terraced walkway. The piggeries provide three delightful bedrooms; one with a king-size bed, the middle bedroom with two single beds and the end bedroom has a double bed with outdoor access to the terrace overlooking the pond. As they were former piggeries they lead one room in to the other, which are perfect for families with young children. The family bathroom has a large double ended bath, wash basin, WC and heated towel rail. The exposed elm beam in the bathroom is charred black from a fire that swept through the old dairy in the early part of the twentieth century. According to an old newspaper cutting (circa 1918) one of the last horse-drawn fire engines used in Suffolk was seen charging up Butchers Lane to put out the fire at Groton Manor Farm. The fire engine would have pumped water from the pond to extinguish the flames which would have been seen for miles as we are positioned at one of the highest points in this area of Suffolk. On a beautiful clear day it is a great spot to paint as endorsed by my father-in-law who is a keen amateur artist. Great for families and groups of friends, more spacious apartment than cosy cottage but if you have young children/babies great romantic weekend away with husband and children - Yes it is possible to have the kids tucked up in bed and you can have a bit of your time, a nice glass of wine and enjoy the luxury of our apartment.
