Derbyshire WHINNIE HOUSE

Originally one of Matlock's famous Hydro Hotels ( hotel's that provided hydropathic treatments using the famous spring waters that surround Matlock and Matlock Bath), the hotel was divided to create four, individual apartments, Whinnie House being one of them. There are still many original features remaining to give you an insight into the origins of the building.Imagine drinking your morning coffee, or perhaps eating your favourite evening meal, whilst enjoying open views of the countryside. Well you can here, either in the conservatory, or outside, on the private terrace. The conservatory is light and bright, cosy, yet comfortable, and the outdoor terrace is south facing, and a perfect place for enjoying those glorious summer days. A FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN is open to the homely, yet elegant, SITTING ROOM. The main feature of this delightful room is the OPEN, derbyshirestone open fireplace .There are two large cosy sofas that are absolutely perfect for curling up in front of the fire, and watching your favourite programme on the 34 Set high on the hillside of Matlock, with PANORAMIC GOOD VIEWS over the Derwent Vally, this delightful holiday home dates back to 1850's, and still exudes the character of its origins. Sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms. Whinnie House is perfect, as it is on the ground floor, and has its own, PRIVATE TERRACE, that not only provides you with the option to 'dine Alfresco' with the BBQ, but at the same time, enjoy the magnificent, stunning and far reaching views, of the Derwent Valley. Many ORIGINAL FEATURES still remain, including the Derbyshire Stone OPEN FIRE, large sash windows, and wonderful cornices and ceiling roses. It has been styled to create a real cosy and ROMANTIC atmosphere, a place which is full of charm and character, and therefore the ideal place to relax and hide away. However, it is also in a perfect central location for discovering some of England's most beautiful countryside, and Derbyshire's many major attractions. Matlock town is a couple of minutes drive away, and Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Haddon Hall, and the 'grandeur' of CHATSWORTH HOUSE, are all within a 15 minute drive, and ALTON TOWERS is too within very good driving distance. Available all year too, it provides the perfect winter rental break. We recommend that you book in advance to ensure a self-catering holiday during half-term or Easter.

Suffolk The Grove Cottages

Enjoy the romantic atmosphere of your own 300 year old English farm cottage. With all the lovely original features of ancient oak beams, a traditional baking oven and ‘copper kettle’, open log fires, original brick or wood floors, authentic farmhouse furniture, ducks, roses and a touch of luxury we bring alive the Romance of Rural Living. Surrounded by lovely Suffolk countryside, just 2 hours from London, our 6 very cosy cottages make up the old Grove Farm which is close to Lavenham, famous for being the prettiest medieval village in England. We are ideally situated for exploring the pretty villages of Suffolk and its coastline, or visiting London which is 50 minutes by train from the nearest mainline station. Despite being so close to London this county is very rural and until very recently rather inaccessible, this has helped preserve the lovely rural qualities and the tiny villages and hamlets that spread out across a spiders web of barely chartered byroads and country lanes. These beautiful villages are one of the great attractions for visitors to Suffolk, often beautifully preserved in all their Medieval splendour and many containing a rich history of the early pilgrims to America, in this tiny hamlet of Edwardstone the first future Govenor of Massachusetts set off to America. The grove cottages, which were formerly dairies, bakery’s and two farm workers cottages are built in a Monastic style ‘double quadrangle’, the buildings all date back to the early 17 hundreds, when they serviced a long lost Mansion House. All cottages are all totally self contained and very private, having entrances from totally different sides; they sleep from 2 to 6 people. Grove Cottages (sleep 2-6).
