Stay in a country cottage in Burbage near Buxton and Poole's Cavern in the Peak District, Derbyshire. Formerly a separate village, Burbage has merged with Buxton to form part of the bigger town on the northwest side. The modern residential developments are of a grey stone colour in keeping with the original stone of the Peak District but lacking charm. There are a few original buildings and it's a convenient place to rent a holiday letting for the west side of the Peak District but not pretty in the same way as some of the smaller villages such as Hartington or Hathersage.

The big town of Buxton in the heart of the Peak District is home to a bustling, thriving community. Surrounded by the farms and countryside of the national park, everyone comes to Buxton for entertainment, shopping and local administration. Tourists throng the town in the summer and to a lesser degree all year round. There is a wide range of eateries, a theatre and plenty of tourist attractions and accommodation.

Buxton

People often come for a walking holiday and might spend one day on the hills and every alternate day recovering and relaxing in the towns and places of interest. Self-catering accommodation in the Peak District is in high demand because that suits people who plan to be out and about all day. The cottages nearest to Burbage and Buxton are shown.
