Powburn is located just over a mile from the edge of the Northumberland National Park, around 10 miles from the attractive market town of Alnwick and 17 miles from the seaside village of Craster. With the Northumberland coast as well as the National Park being just a short easy drive away, Powburn could be an excellent base for discovering some of the best of Northumberland coast and countryside on a cottage break.
Inland, discover attractive towns such as Alnwick, a fine market town resplendent with stone buildings and a fascinating castle which has featured in the Harry Potter films. For excellent walks head to Northumberland National Park where you can find trails galore along with remains of Hadrian’s Wall.
Along the coast, there are numerous pretty villages to discover and fascinating historical castles. The National Trust’s Lindisfarne Castle is particularly scenic but stay safe and check the tidal causeway timetable carefully before driving out towards Lindisfarne. Bamburgh Castle is also glorious, as is the beach next to it. To fully access the attractions of Northumberland, it is pretty much essential to have use of a car.
