FERRY LODGE is fully centrally heated so is cosy and comfortable at any time of the year. The supply and laundering of the linen and towels is included in the charges as is the electricity and central heating, so there are no nasty additional costs to surprise one! This lodge would be a brilliant venue for a Christmas or a New Years break, you will see from the pictures that it is quite beautiful here when its really snowy, not to mention the fab hills for sledging down!.
FERRY LODGE is in a quiet location but not remote and consequently the shops at Builth Wells are easily reached, Builth is only 4 miles away. We are very excited to be able to offer this lovely new Lodge and hope that everyone will enjoy visiting here too! Dogs are welcome but visitors must bring their pets own bedding with them. We do ask that they are kept under control at all times as there are other dogs in the vicinity and of course lots of sheep!!
Please visit http://www.boatside.co.uk/ to find out more about the holiday cottage, amenities, surrounding area and places to visit in Powys.
The main attraction at The Ferry Lodge is immediate access to 700 yards of private fishing on the River Wye. Catches have included salmon, trout, dace, grayling and chubb, a large pike was landed last year. The surrounding hills are just begging for walkers and mountain bikers to explore. The hills and surrounding area sports some brilliant birdwatching having both upland and river species not to mention the famous Kite Centre at Rhyader. The Elan Valley is just a short distance from here and Hay on Wye, (famous for its book shops and some very good clothes shops). Builth Wells itsself is a delightful little market town with all one could desire in the way of butchers, bakers and local produce and of course local crafts. There are riding schools locally for the keen horse rider and hang-gliding from the local hills. There is an adventure centre at Langorse with wall climbing and fab high zip wires for the daring!! There are coalmines to visit and caves not too far away and of course the sea is about an hours distance. There is a swimming pool in Builth Wells and tennis courts also a childrens play area. There is a wonderful walk along the riverbank which will take you as far as you want to venture. All in all THE FERRY is very well located!!!!.

Good places to visit: We are in an excellent location here for places to visit. The Elan Valley and Dams are a short ride away, with a variety of walks and a very good visitors centre and places to picnic. Hay on Wye is 15 miles away. being the famous book town, there are loads of book shops to visit and restaurants and clothes shops which are great. Not to mention Hay Bluff to walk on and enjoy the views. There is often hang/gliding there and kite flying. We are near to Glasbury on Wye which has a canoe hire centre and locally there are numerous horse riding centres which take you up onto the mountain tops for some adventure. At Llangorse Lake there is boat hire available for a day or hours sail and nearby is the Adventure Centre for Wall climbing and zip wires for teenagers. There are too many ruined castles to enumerate, but great places to explore. We are lucky in having a number of gardens to visit for the gardening enthusiast. Especially the Welsh Botanical Gardens, which are a must and are about a hours drive away. There is a coalmine to explore and caves near Mwthyr, which most children love. Brecon has a variety of places to see, the Cathedral, the Welsh Regimental Museum, loads of swords and guns!! Brecon also has a marvellous modern theatre and cinema for rainy days. The canal runs into Brecon and one can take a short trip on a barge which is great fun. The kite Centre at Rhyader is a must. a local farmer feeds the Kites every day and literally dozens of Kites fly in to take the food, a really amazing sight to see. Of course the sea is only an hour away for a complete change of scene. I can just go on and on and on and on!!!
Annual Events: Builth Wells is ideally situated as the Royal Welsh Showground is situated here. There are a number of events which take place there starting with the Spring Smallholders Show in May. July has the main Agricultural Show which is an event not to be missed. It is the best show for all livestock, horse judging and showing, crafts and flowers, pony club events and just a brilliant week's entertainment of rural events. The Hay on Wye Literary Festival, now and international event, is such fun with countless celebrities to enjoy.
Good places to eat: There is a village pub at Aberedw which is one mile away. Builth Wells has a good variety of places to eat, pubs, restaurants, takeaways and hotels. There are also several pubs in the locality producing good food using locally sourced meat and produce. So no shortage of choice.
