Tain is an attractive town with fine stone buildings officially located in the Highland region of Scotland in a part known as Ross and Cromarty.  Tain is a picturesque town in which to take a self catering break.  A cottage stay in or near Tain is likely to appeal to anyone looking to discover this reasonably remote part of the Scottish Highlands which is off the main tourist trail.  Scotland is an unspoilt country and the benefits of travelling to this part of Scotland is that you can really find peace, tranquillity as well as some excellent wildlife watching opportunities.  There are plentiful opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing and golfing in Ross and Cromarty.

One interesting characteristic of Tain is that some of the buildings in the town centre have grand turrets and other castle like features.  Tain Tollbooth is also of note as this is an interesting fort like structure.  On the outskirts of Tain is Glenmorangie Distillery where you can visit for a guided tour and more information on their award winning whiskies.
