The lively Victorian seaside resort of Nairn has always been a popular holiday destination. Only sixteen miles from the Millennium town of Inverness, Nairn is apparently one of the driest, sunniest places in the country but regardless of the weather during your trip, there is plenty to do. With some of the best beaches in Scotland and some of the cleanest waters in Great Britain, the area is home to one of the only two dolphin colonies in the country. Situated in the Moray Firth, visitors can often see these beautiful, intelligent mammals swimming nearby. Closely linked to the Battle of Culloden, nearby Fort George claims to be Europe’s best preserved eighteenth century military fortification. There are also plenty of opportunities nearby for a game of golf on one of the two eighteen-hole championship courses.
