Falkirk is located in the heart of Scotland, just south of Stirling and is an area that many choose to visit for self catering cottage holidays. Stirling offers varied attractions, ranging from monuments and castles to various other activities. Among the numerous manmade attractions that you can visit during a cottage holiday in Falkirk, is ‘The Falkirk Wheel’. Providing connectivity between the rivers Forth and Clyde and the Union Canals, this incredible Wheel is the first rotating boatlift of the world. There is a visitor centre, café and woodland walks too.   You can also hire canoes or for the really adventurous, you could do a water walking experience.  Close to the Wheel is the Antonine Wall heritage site, which is the largest Roman occupation relic in the country. You can also take a round trip to Manuel from the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway and experience travel on a steam train, sure to be a hit for family days out.
