Southerness is a small seaside village with a stretch of beach and a lighthouse.  This village is located along the Solway Firth Coast, 16 miles from Dumfries in Dumfriesshire.  The large hill of Criffel can be seen to the north of the village.  Enjoy browsing for coastal cottages and self catering cottages in and near Southerness.

The coastline near Southerness is interesting and includes sandy beaches.  On clear sunny days from the sandy bay at Gillfoot you can enjoy wonderful views over the Solway Firth towards the hills and dramatic landscape of the English Lake District.  Other attractions near Southerness include the Galloway Wildlife Conservation Park with 27 acres of woodlands where you can see a variety of animals in enclosures.  Just on the outside of the village is Sweetheart Abbey which dates back to the 1200s.  Attractions that may appeal to those on a family self-catering holiday include Mabie Farm Park with its variety of animals and indoor and outdoor entertainment for children.  Dalscone Farm is a little further away and part of the National Farm Attractions Network offering a variety of play areas and opportunities to meet the animals.
