(2 welcome) Arriving at the sandstone viaduct and gates of the private Cairnsmore Estate you immediately get that 'away from it all' feeling. A clear burn runs alongside the winding avenue that leads to Stable Cottage and ahead the hills and forests emerge as you approach the Courtyard archway to your destination.
The cottage was refurbished at the beginning of 2010 with several measures to improve guest’s comfort utilising renewable energy. The most important is the Geothermal underfloor central heating system with 24/7 hot water. Other improvements include a new bathroom (luxurious double ended bath with shower over), woodburning stove in the living room and Flagstone flooring throughout the main living areas that creates a "cosy cottage atmosphere."

Stable Cottage is a 200 year old traditional Galloway Category B Listed building that was originally part of the stable block for the private Cairnsmore Estate. The estate is the ancestral home of the Stewart family and was once the shooting estate of the Dukes of Bedford. As soon as you drive through the estate gates, along the avenue bordered by rhodedendron and broad-leaf trees, the surroundings evoke a by-gone time. The cottage's fabulous and peaceful location make this the ideal base for relaxing and exploring the local area. There is wonderful walking in the surrounding area (highlighted in the Newton Stewart Walkfest) and is on the footpath to the summit of Cairnsmore of Fleet (2,300 feet). The enclosed garden is south-facing and a wonderful sun-trap where red squirrels and greater spotted woodpeckers are frequent visitors. The area offers varied interests, both for the outdoor & wildlife enthusiasts and those who enjoy exploring the surrounding towns and villages.
