Arriving at the sandstone viaduct and gates of the private Cairnsmore Estate you immediately get that 'away from it all' feeling. As you drive along the winding avenue to Stable Cottage, a clear burn runs alongside and ahead the hills and forests emerge as you approach the Courtyard archway to your destination.
Stable Cottage is a 250 year old traditional Galloway Category B Listed building that was originally part of the stable block for the private Cairnsmore Estate. The estate is the ancestral home of the Stewart family and was once the shooting estate of the Dukes of Bedford. As soon as you drive through the estate gates, along the avenue bordered by rhodedendron and broad-leaf trees, the surroundings evoke a by-gone time. The cottage's fabulous and peaceful location make this the ideal base for relaxing and exploring the local area. The enclosed garden is south-facing and a wonderful sun-trap where red squirrels and greater spotted woodpeckers are frequent visitors. The area offers varied interests, both for the outdoor & wildlife enthusiasts and those who enjoy exploring the surrounding towns and villages.
There is a large airy kitchen-diner equipped with fridge, oven, hob, microwave and washing machine. Here guests will also find a traditional pulley on which to warm and dry your clothes. The bright, but cosy, lounge houses a TV, DVD and CD player, and is the perfect place to relax after a day of exploration. There are two bedrooms in Stable Cottage, both overlooking the back garden. The master bedroom houses a comfortable king-size Sleigh bed with matching furniture. The second bedroom has two comfortable single beds. Garage and washing facilities for mountain bikes. Garden furniture and BBQ provided. The garden is ideal for pets.
