Tarbert is a small village on the northern point of the Kintyre Peninsula.  Tarbert is an extremely picturesque place to take a self-catering holiday and is a traditional fishing village.  The scenic quality of Tarbert becomes apparent on arrival.  Pretty cottages including some brightly coloured buildings surround the harbour.  Add to this some quaint cottages scattered along the hillside, the idyllic harbour and the proximity of the village to Loch Tarbert and Loch Fyne.  The fishing tradition of Tarbert continues to this day and there are a number of working boats to be found in the natural harbour, as well as an annual seafood festival.  Tarbert is a pleasant village in which to take a break.  Enjoy finding coastal cottages in Tarbert or country cottages nearby.

Whether you reach Tarbert by car or by boat, it is a very scenic spot.  In terms of places of interest, the ruins of Talbert Castle are to be found high on a hill on the outskirts of the village.  The castle is now cared for by the Tarbert and Skipness Community Trust and is accessible to visitors.  Hebridean black sheep are to be found near the castle and are responsible for keeping the grass under control.  

Tarbert is also on the Kintyre Peninsular which is known for its sandy beaches, attractive coastline, forests and hills.  There are many good walks in and around Talbert.  The Kintyre Way which guides you along the Kintyre Peninsular starts off at Talbert.  This trail covers a mix of gentle walks and serious hikes.  Always make sure that you take full care of your health and safety when embarking on such walks.
