Self-catering accommodation near Groton Suffolk
Groton is a tiny Suffolk village of little more than 240 inhabitants, set between Hadleigh and Sudbury.
The 15th century church of St. Bartholomew's attracts visitors, especially Americans for whom it has a special historical significance. It contains the tomb of the parents of John Winthrop, the leader of the puritans who fled to America during the reign of King Charles the first. He became the founder of Boston, USA, and the first governor of Massachusetts. The church can be found north of Boxford on the A1071.
There are also a few acres of nature reserves for bird watching and country walks, including ancient woodlands. Enjoy wonderful walks and views through Suffolk countryside.
Places of interest to visit nearby include the villages of Edwardstone, Gosling Green, Hadleigh, and Kersey.
