Wales is an interesting country to visit, from the clean sandy beaches of the south coast through to the mountains and scenery of Snowdonia, but the evenings can be a little chilly, and you will appreciate a wood stove or open fire.

Gwynedd Llanfendigaid

The Llanfendigaid Estate has been owned by the Nanney-Wynn family and their forebears since the earliest records began in AD 1241. An estate map from 1780 shows that the original estate stretched along the Welsh coast from Harlech in the north to Aberystwyth in the south. However, since the collapse of many of the great British estates in the 1920s, Llanfendigaid Estate has gradually reduced in size to around 300 acres in the Snowdonia National Park on one of the most attractive stretches of the Welsh coastline.

The current owner, William Nanney-Wynn Garton-Jones, now operates the main Estate house and the surrounding cottages as a top quality catered and self-catering holiday establishment, complete with 28' x 12' indoor heated swimming pool together with easy access to one of the more secluded beaches in the area. In addition he has collected together artifacts and paintings owned by the family over several centuries to help give guests a truly memorable Welsh holiday experience.

Built and occupied by the Nanney-Wynn family for over eight centuries, Llanfendigaid (which translates as Llanfendigaid Estate - a self-catering coastal mansion sleeping 16 with an indoor heated swimming pool at the southern end of Snowdonia National Park. Close to beaches and surrounded by superb scenery.

Pembrokeshire Lawrenny Farm Cottages

Wow, we could live here... that’s been the response of countless Tedion and Vallen guests when they first go into our holiday cottages. All three cottages are a far cry from the austerity of typical holiday homes. Instead, they have been furnished to the standard of a very comfortable family home, with all the mod-cons you’re used to. The three cottages are located in the rural Landsker region of stunning south Pembrokeshire on neighbouring farms. Just a short drive apart, they sleep up to 18 people between them. The two Vallen Farm cottages are both 5-star quality, with their own, fenced gardens.  They back onto the farm yard and look out over glorious rolling farmland.  Their peaceful, end-of-lane setting makes for a peaceful, away-from-it-all holiday setting.  Vallen Calf Barn is the largest, sleeping up to 8 in four bedrooms.   Spacious and airy, it has three bedrooms and a family bathroom upstairs and a double bedroom and bathroom downstairs, making it very popular with extended family groups.  Gran and Grandad can enjoy a little privacy downstairs while the rest of the family have their own space upstairs.   A large, open plan living area and kitchen creates a great holiday ambience.  Outside, the property looks out over a large field usually populated with sheep, alpacas and Welsh mountain ponies.  Patio with wooden furniture and BBQ provide a great place to enjoy lovely views of rolling farmland. Also at Vallen is the Vallen Cart House, a two-bedroom cottage with two bathrooms, sleeping 4.  Again, having a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor makes this a popular choice for all ages.  The cottage backs onto the farmyard and opens onto a private, fenced garden overlooking a natural pond and wide open views of organic farmland.  Pygmy goats across the lane provide plenty of entertainment (and instant composting facilities by gratefully guzzling peelings and left-over vegetables!)

A small collection of farm cottages in a beautiful part of Pembrokeshire. Visit south Wales for a walking holiday and enjoy fantastic views and a warm welcome. Wonderful in spring and easter - lots of blossom and wild flowers.

With easy access to the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path - all 186 miles of it - the cottages make a great base for walkers.  And the importance of the Pembroekshire Coast National Park as a bird sanctuary is not lost on twitchers - many are the bird watchers who make an annual pilgrimmage to witness the resident population of stunning brids of prey and British song birds, as well as annual migrants ranging from puffins to gannets.

Lawrenny Farm Cottages are not only for nature lovers though.  We're within ten miles of the Big 3 Pembrokeshire attractions - oakwoods Theme Park, Folly Farm and Heatherton Leisure Park, so there's plenty for the little'uns to look forward to.  Opening in 2008 is the much heralded Blue Lagoon waterworld at Blueston Village, which promises to be something special.

And the huge beaches of Tenby and Saundersfoot, the walk-to beach of Barfundle and pretty little coves and hideaway beaches are all within an easy drive from our farm cottages.

Powys The Cidermill at Boatside

The Cidermill at Boatside is a charming stonebuilt cottage situated along the stunning river Wye - ideal if you are looking for complete peace and tranquility, but with the advantage of being only 3 miles to the nearest town. Walking, fishing, bird watching and much more on offer. Inside, the decour is tateful and similar to a log cabin, offering comfortable centrally heated accommodation, comprising a double bedroom (with two single beds), shower room, kitchen and large sitting/dining room with a superb view directly onto the river! There are some excellent walks from the doorstep. The hill behind boatside has many paths going up it, as well as across it, and offers excellent views from the top. The Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and the hills of Drygarn Fawr beyond the Elan Valley can be seen on a clear day. From the village of Aberedw paths lead onto the hills beyond the village, where an interesting circular walk can easily be done in an afternoon, passing Llewellyn's Cave and Twm Tobaccos grave on the way. For those who enjoy mountain biking, then the same hills are accessible, with some fast and furious descents to tempt you! A helmet is advisable, and beware of nettles and gorse bushes on the tracks on the hill behind Boatside. If you need a more relaxing occupation, then the birdlife in the area is diverse. Birds of prey, waterfowl, woodpeckers and the smaller passerines abound in the vicinity of the farm, while a short walk on the hill will enable you to spot upland birds and skylarks. At the end of the day, a picnic on the river bank is a good way to relax; watch the world go by, as the swallows fly overhead and the trout rise lazily to the fly – paradise!
