Newport lies close to the north coast of Pembrokeshire, on the A487, about 6 miles east of Fishguard. It has a castle, Newport castle, founded in 1191 by William FitzMartin - a Norman. Nevern Castle, 2 miles further inland was founded by the Welsh Princes. The narrow streets of Newport remind us of its medieval history.
