County Sligo is located on the North West coast of Ireland and is perhaps most famous for it links to the poet W.B. Yeats. Yeats lived in Sligo for much of his life and some of his poetry was inspired by the landscape of the county. He was also laid to rest in Drumcliffe just outside Sligo town. Sligo boasts a green and lush landscape, dominated by sheer limestone ridges such as towering Ben Bulben. It boasts spectacular sandy beaches at Rosses Point, Strandhill, Dunmoran, Easkey, Enniscrone and Mullaghmore, many are EU blue flag beaches. It also contains one of the richest concentrations of prehistoric monuments in Western Europe including Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery and Miosgan Meadhbha (Maeve's Cairn). Marine archeologists have also recently uncovered a wreck of the Spanish Armada which was storm-driven upon this coast in September of 1588. There is much to do in this region and list of local activities is provided in the site. Sligo is also famous for its selection of lynx course with Rosses Point offering a championship course.

The Property River Cottage is a secluded rural property positioned next to the Owenmore River in county Sligo. The property is approached via approx. 500 metre private lane. It is the only property at the end of this lane where the land meets the river. The property was completed in May 2007 and has been furnished to the highest standards. Although it is a new property every effort has been made to achieve a traditional feel where possible. Inside the property features include: Sleeps 6 + 2 Ground Floor Large open plan kitchen/dining/living area with views over the surrounding fields, nearby wood and river. Underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. Fully operating open fire (logs supplied)

Views over the fields and river. Large Guest room with ensuite bath & power shower and views over the fields and towards the river. Third bedroom with adjoining WC and wash basin with balcony overlooking rear garden. All double beds are 6" x 6"6' and have memory foam mattresses for extra comfort. All rooms have thick curtains with block out lining and are therefore suitable should young children/babies be staying. Cots/high chairs are not provided. All linen/towels are provided. There is a large patio area off the French doors in the living room and a barbecue can be provided for use. There is a large garden and fields surrounding the property.

Local activities Golf: Castle Dargan (Darren Clarke designed course) is the closest at 10 minutes drive and there are a host of well renowned links golf courses within 20 - 45 minutes drive including Rosses Point (20 minutes drive) Enniscrone (40 minues driving) & Strandhill (15 minutes driving). There are two sets of golf clubs available for guest use at the house. Spa's – Icon Wellness Spa @ Castle Dargan (10 Mins) or The Celtic Seaweed Baths @ Strandhill (15 mins) Horse riding & Archery at Markree Castle Beaches: Strandhill - Surfing & beach walks (15mins drive) & Dunmoran Strand - Good for Families (30mins) Salmon Fishing: Ballysadare (10 mins) (seasonal) Pubs : Fantastic local pubs with traditional Irish Music

Travel: Sligo Airport (20 mins) Ireland West (35 mins)

Good places to visit: Inishmurray Island from Mullaghmore in the Spring/Summer months. Dunmoran Strand for fabulous beach walks and Mullaghmore previous summer home of Lord Mountbatten for a day trip. Has beautiful white sandy beaches. W B Yeats grave in Drumcliffe. Glencar Waterfall. Lissadell House. Connemara for an overnight trip and to play Connemara Golf Course.
