holidaymakers new to the hot tub concept sometimes have strange notions about safety and the effects on skin. They are safe to use assuming that correct disinfection programmes are employed and people do not flout the rules. Yes, you will end up looking like a prune after prolonged hours in a hot tub, and sun tan oil will leave an oil slick on the surface, which is why guests are requested not to use sun tan oil before wading in.
