Do not be alarmed if you are asked to sign to the effect that your use of a hot tub is at your own risk. This is common procedure and just an attempt by cottage owners to protect themselves, because guests sometimes do silly things.

Relaxing in the warm massaging waters of a hot tub can be most soothing and beats meeting people down at the local pub because it reduces inhibitions. Hot tubs are rather like Marmite – people either love them or hate them. There are swim bars in swimming pools abroad and they always take the precaution of serving drinks in plastic cups so that there is no chance of broken glass.

However, we are considering a hot tub that cannot hold more than about 8 people at most and the climate of Galway is not that suitable for spending hours semi-naked indoors or out. The maximum time spent in a hot tub in any one session is about half an hour. The massaging and pulsating jet action is timed for a periodand then it is a quick sprint into your holiday cottage unless it is the height of summer.

Most of us know not to expect wall to wall sunshine in Galway. It is best to take that umbrella just in case.

A hot tub may be an interesting novelty for you if you enjoy that kind of thing and as long as it is under cover, can be enjoyed despite the weather. Do spend a little time thinking about the kind of things that would add to your pleasure on holiday.
