Petworth is one of Sussex's most important country towns.  It was a centre for the cloth industry in the 16th century, now it features atmospheric winding streets and over 20 antique and art shops of a high quality.

Petworth House is a National Trust property, open from April to October, featuring the National Trust's finest collection of paintings and stunning grounds designed by 'Capability' Brown.

The doll house museum has over 100 doll's houses, made by well known makers, and the Petworth Cottage Museum is an estate workers' cottage, restored and furnished as it would have been in 1910. 

The Petworth Festival will run from July 17th to August 2nd in 2009. It always has a surprisingly varied and international programme featuring world-class performers, combined with a welcoming, inclusive, arts-for-all, fun approach. It’s a great opportunity to explore all kinds of arts and music, and there’s something for everyone, including trad jazz, secret gardens, acclaimed quartets, salsa rhythms, poetry readings, piano recitals and abstract Sussex landscapes.
