Langport

Langport is actually an ancient port.  You can see from many of the buildings that they used to be used for off loading and storing cargo from the boats.  These days Langport offers gentle shopping and lovely walks along the River Parrett.

You can hire bicycles in Langport to explore the area and there are numerous cafes to stop and relax in.

an ancient market town in the heart of Somerset. It retains much of its old world charm and is unique among the many ancient settlements in this remote unspoilt area known as the Somerset Levels and Moors. It is set in a parish of 170 acres and its historical features suggest its earlier importance. Langport is situated on the banks of the River Parrett and this has played a significant part in its fascinating history. Its role as an important trading post in the 18th century is reflected in its fine architecture and in the historic wharfs and warehouses now being sympathetically restored. The attractive river area is now important for leisure and tourism.
