Breamish Valley Cottages are located in the tiny farming hamlet of Branton near Alnwick, nestling at the foot of the Cheviot Hills, yet only half an hour from the coast. Our seventeen cottages were created from a fine range of stone farm buildings which surround a sheltered and attractive courtyard. Great care was taken to preserve the original character of the buildings as well as meeting the requirements of a comfortable and relaxing holiday. Traditional country furnishings have been used throughout, and all cottages have modern well-equipped kitchens with electric oven, microwave oven and dishwasher. Satellite TV, CD / radio, telephones and well-stocked bookshelves are standard as well as wood-burning stoves and oil-fired central heating.

Breamish Valley Cottages - Alnwick,

Our sporting and leisure facilties are excellent. If a day's walking or cycling hasn't tired you out, we offer an all-weather tennis court, a football pitch or a chance to work out in our up-to-date well-equipped gym. If the competitive urge is still strong, you can try the putting green or the games room, which has pool, table tennis and table football. Fishing and pony trekking are available nearby as well as a choice of several golf courses. We appreciate that not all of our guests will wish to participate in our more energetic pursuits, at least not all of the time! So we've made provision for them too. Those of a more gentle persuasion can relax in our beautiful indoor pool with its magnificent views of the hills. Try a sauna or a session in the steam room, or improve your tan in the sun shower. If after that you start to feel a touch lively again, there's always a traditional English game of croquet to tempt you. Our cottages make an ideal base for holidaying in Northumberland. If the great outdoors beckons, or you're a walker, a naturalist, a lover of history or a shopper, you will find many places of interest. You may be drawn to the beautiful landscape of the Northumberland National Park, or the fascinating remains of Hadrian's Wall and the many Roman forts which once marked the northern limit of the Roman Empire. And then there are Northumberland's castles and stately homes to explore ... the likes of Bamburgh, Alnwick Castle - which was used as a location for filming parts of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and Cragside rank among the best in England.

The coast, too, possesses many attractions, ranging from Lindisfarne Abbey on Holy Island to seaside villages that simply ooze character. For shoppers, the towns offer a wide range of shops and you can always catch a bargain at one of the open-air markets. Imagine the purple heather on the Cheviot massif where the Breamish rises, to the sweeping sandy beaches where it joins the sea. Northumberland offers the best walking country in England; you can walk all day in this land of rugged splendour and far horizons and have the hills to yourself. Iron Age forts and majestic castles are a testament to the turbulent past of the border marches and you can still feel the atmosphere of such times amid the ruins of Dunstanburgh and Norham.
