Cottage rentals in Abbey Dore, Herefordshire, England
Abbey Dore is a marvellous place for a rural retreat, positioned in rolling countryside that rises up towards the peaks of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains The Herefordshire village sits in the picturesque Golden Valley close to the Welsh border. There's great hiking in the hills and gentle walks out from the village, following the River Dore and passing through fields and woods. The village is notable for the monastic ruins of the Cistercian Abbey which gave the village its name and for the horticultural delights of Abbey Dore Court gardens, six acres of mature planting in the grounds of a former country house.
Apple and Pear orchards dot the local countryside, source of the celebrated cider and perry of the region. The cathedral city of Hereford lies a little to the North East, the famous book town of Hay-on-Wye is just off to the North West, while a trip south through the valley takes you to the beautiful surrounds of the old priory of Llanthony Abbey. You are sure to enjoy a country cottage holiday in the amazing part of the country.
