The historic city of Durham , only 17 miles, is well worth a visit for its Norman Castle and magnificent cathedral, whilst Newcastle for excellent shopping is 24 miles. Beamish Living History Museum, Barnard Castle andKillhope Lead Mining Centre are among attractions close by.
