Beaminster is an interesting ancient market town in West Dorset, which was destroyed by fire three times, the last being in 1781. Standing at the head of the River Brit, Beaminster has an outstanding French patisserie, an excellent butcher's and delicatessen, and various other interesting shops, galleries and a museum. Also for gifts, try the Broadwindsor Craft Centre nearby. There is also a Wednesday Flea Market and an Antiques Market. The town is surrounded by other interesting towns and is close to the World Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast. Lyme Regis offers the best place to hunt for and buy fossils, especially ammonites.
