This sole detached stone cottage is a very special rural retreat, with its own natural water supply, lying within the folds of the secret Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Pretty Shillings cottage sleeps two plus a cot. It has exposed beams and a charming character. A field away from the nearest country lane, it is set within several acres of lovely, well tended gardens, a tranquil orchard and traditional meadows with a large pond and with extensive views across the peaceful valley towards the distant hills. This is a haven for wildlife, such as roe deer, heron, ducks, woodpeckers, foxes, badgers, buzzards and sparrow hawks.

Recently finished to a very high standard, the cosy cottage has full central heating. The bedroom, has a brass super king size bed with feather duvet and pure white linen. From a comfortable sofa you can enjoy TV, DVD or digital radio or just gaze out over the pastoral view through the French windows. These open onto a large balcony, which is entwined with scented roses, honeysuckle and clematis. A table and chairs, for al fresco dining, are under the leaves of a walnut tree. Steps from the balcony lead to a paved terrace and a heated swimming pool. The terrace has borders of roses, honeysuckle, daphne, lavender and thyme. In a sheltered corner is the perfect suntrap, a glass topped table with a parasol for shade and reclining chairs where you can watch the white doves fly to and from their dovecote. On the lawns, you can relax and enjoy the sunshine on fully reclining teak loungers. The kitchen with dining table and chairs is fully equipped and fitted with solid ash worktops. There is a power shower and separate W.C. All towels are provided. The cottage has good mobile phone reception, free WIFI broadband internet and is non smoking.

To welcome you to Shillings cottage, a devonshire cream tea will be left ready for you.  four scones, local clotted cream, home made jam, tea or coffee, and a jug of milk. along with vases of fresh flowers in every room will ensure a great start to your holiday. A bottle of sparkling white wine may be arranged to be left to chill for you in the fridge. Shillings cottage is the only cottage, and it is perfect for a special, stress free holiday away from it all. One small, well behaved pet is welcome by arrangement. There is private off road parking.

The picturesque Blackdown Hills straddle the Somerset and Devon; the coasts both north and south are within easy reach, as are Exmoor and Dartmoor. This is an ideal location for visiting National Trust properties and gardens, as well as exploring the historic cities of Wells, Bath, and Exeter, as well as great shopping at Clarks Village near Glastonbury. There are plenty of countryside walks from the doorstep and local maps are provided. The village pub, post office and shop are within easy walking distance. There are tennis courts in the village. Fishing is available locally. We also provide bikes so that you can explore the country lanes. You may even bring your own horse and tuition can be arranged at a nearby stables. Visiting friends are very welcome as B and B guests at the farmhouse.

This is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The landscape of small fields with stone banks, and native hedgerows are timeless. Within reach are many lovely gardens and National Trust properties such as Cothay Manor, Burrow Hill gardens, Sand, Forde Abbey, Montecute, Barrington Court, Hestercombe, Killerton and Knighthayes. Traditional and arts and crafts courses are available at The Old Kennels. Farmers markets take place regularly in Taunton and Wellington. also markets are held in Tiverton and Honiton. Sandy and pebble beaches, fishing villages and fossil cliffs are to be found on the South coast, with sand and surf, moorland and ponies on the North coast. The nearby Landrover experience is great fun for off road adventure. Parachuting flying and gliding are available at Dunkerswell airfield. There is an old fashioned cinema in Wellington and each local town has its own sports centre. Exeter and Taunton have a theatre and museum. The fleet air arm museum at Yeovil is not far as well as Clarks village. There is a steam train which runs from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead through miles of beautiful countryside and has a bar on board. The canal from Tiverton to Holcombe Rogis is a wonderful cycle path and also has horse drawn barge trips from Tiverton.

Also a superb Indian takeaway in the next village, with a delivery service. the village boasts a fish and chip shop. The nearest town of Wellington has a great cheese shop, a gorgeous cafe and a fresh fish shop as well as a Waitrose who will deliver for free.

Local Sports: Horse riding, bird watching, parachuting, fishing.
