The village of Sherford, with its 13th century church and thatched cottages, is within walking distance and the pub, village shop and public slipway at Frogmore are also easily accessible.

The South Hams offers a wide range of leisure activities for all ages. The picturesque town of Salcombe offers excellent sailing facilities, restaurants and boutique shopping, as does nearby Dartmouth. The thriving market town of Kingsbridge, with its comprehensive shopping and leisure facilities, lies less than 10 minutes drive away. There are superb walks along the rugged, gorse-covered coastline and numerous, safe sandy beaches for the young and young-at-heart. Bantham - 10/15 minutes' drive from Stancombe - offers some of the best surfing conditions in the South West. The dramatic tors and wide-open spaces of Dartmoor National Park are a short distance to the north, offering opportunities for riding and hiking. There are several golf courses in the surrounding area, notably at Thurlestone, Dartmouth and Bigbury. The cathedral city of Exeter is an hour away and the Eden Project two hours' drive.
