The delightful market town of Matlock was originally a hamlet with one of only a few crossing points along the length of the River Derwent, which carves its way through a ridge of limestone. This part of the valley is spectacular, steep-sided, winding and wooded, with high cliffs such as High Tor towering above attracting many rock-climbers, walkers, fishermen and bird-watchers. The town offers many buildings of architectural interest, including an impressive parish church. You will find all the usual amenities as well as a Sainsbury's and there are plenty of bars and restaurants including; Italian, Indian & Thai. The wonderful surrounding countryside includes Carsington Water and the High Peak Trail .
