Cotterill Farm consists of five four star cottages on a non-working farm in a superb but not remote central Peak District country location. The cottages have been given the newly introduced and fairly rare 'Gold Award' by the English Tourism council for 'exceptional quality in all areas but in particular with regard to service' Two cottages are for four persons, two sleep three (one of these is particularly large and is all on the ground floor and therefore particularly suitable for the less agile), and one sleeps only two. The owners never rest on their laurels, constantly trying to improve fitments, furnishings and services offered. The cottages have exposed beams and stone-work. The cottages are 300 yards up a private drive and form part of a courtyard facing outwards over the surrounding fields and dales to give excellent views and some degree of privacy. In front of these cottages is a large grassed and garden area. There is ample area for off-road parking for all cottages. The spacious two person cottage has a galleried bedroom overlooking the large living room, in the centre of which is a log burner standing on a stone plinth acting as a focal point It also has a five piece suite in the top quality bathroom.

In each cottages there are ten(!) highly organised information folders, (with an additional folder inserted into thoses cottages if pre-teenage children are in a guest's party) partly written by the owners themselves who are lovers of the Peak. Guests have heaped praise on this source of information which ensures that even those who have stayed with us numerous times still find plenty new to do. Events lists are supplied in advance between May and September. Housekeeping and attention to detail is regarded by the owners, who strive to encourage return visits, as being of paramount importance - an almost unheard of 100% awarded by the Tourist Board Inspector in this regard - as is their concern is to ensure guests have an excellent holiday.
High quality locally sourced breakfast packs are available at cost price (£10) during winter weekends and throughout the year ready made meals are available for purchase
Bicycle hire (including one brilliant electric bike) is available from the farm is available to those over 12 at roughly one half of the cost normally charged by commercial operators.
There are two wild flowers meadows managed under a Countyside Stewardship Scheme on our land, one of which borders a nature reserve through which a footpath leads after just over a mile to the Rive Dove (at Wolfscote Dale). One mile down river is Dovedale. The cottages are located off a quiet country lane between the highly popular village of Hartington and its smaller, quieter neighbour, Biggin. Both villages have pubs serving full meals cafes and a church. There is also an excellent restaurant about a mile away. whilst Biggin has a lovely Hall, now a country house hotel, which is open to non-residents for luchnes, excellent afternoon cream-teas and truly good vilaue four course evening meals. Numerous footpaths surround the land on which the cottages stand, offering unrivalled walking in the best part of the White Peak. The highly popular Tissington Trail, which runs for 17 miles, is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and is less than 1 mile from us. Two further trails, (both of similar distance), are within 3 miles. These three tracks are ideal for family cycling, as is the network of quiet minor roads, which can be accessed at numerous points along the trails. Sustrans National Cycling Route 54 passes within 80 yards of the end of our drive. Buxton , Matlock, Bakewell, Ashbourne, Leek and Chatsworth House are all about 11 miles away on the edge of the Peak District at different points on the compass, confirming our claim to be very much in the heart of the White Peak area of the Peak District. (The White Peak is the area of rolling countryside, dales, streams and rivers limestone villages and dry-stone walls, which give the area so much character). Alton Towers is less than 30 minutes drive away.

There are numerous footpaths and bridle ways in the immediate vicinity, offering unrivalled walking in the best part of the White Peak. The highly popular Tissington Trail, which runs for 17 miles, is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and is just 1 mile from the cottages. Two further trails, the High Peak Trail and the Manifold Valley Trail (both of similar distance), are within 2 miles. These three tracks are ideal for family cycling as is the network of quiet minor roads, which can be accessed at numerous points along the trails. These former railway lines have much else to offer, not least quality views, but also interesting viaducts, steam beam engines and other remnants of the past. Lovely towns and villages to explore including our own village, Hartington with its famous creamery and cheese shop and duck pond, Youlgreave which has Englands smallest house at Thimble Hall, The lovely Ashford-in-the-Water with a gorgeously photographic 'sheepwash' bridge spanning the River Wye and the beautiful classic Haddon Hall near Bakewell, which probably surpasses even Chatsworth for its beauty. For Antique lovers, the market town of Ashbourne has numerous shops to keep an enthusiast lingering for hours.
Nearest Train Station or Airport: Buxton, is 15 minutes easy drive away. East Midlands and Manchester airport are one hours drive away. Hull is 2 hours drive away.
Recommended Places to Visit: Hartington, one mile down the road, is one of the most highly regarded villages in the Peak District, partly because of its superb location next to the River Dove but also for its varied attractions, and also much admired for its goose pond, church, gorgeous Jacobean hall and stone cottages. In fact in the surrounding 6 miles there are numerous villages, all have something to offer for a visitor. Also Alton Towers (of course) Chatsworth and Haddon Hall (of course again), National Tramway Museum and National Stone Centre, (both suprisingly interesting even to those not interested in stone or trams!), the famous Blue John mines and outlets at Castleton, the cable cars at Height of Abraham ( Matlock Bath ), the market towns of Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne; the estate village of Tissington; Carsington Water, where all types of water sport are enjoyed.
Annual Events: Too many to mention, literally hundreds within 30 minutes drive, thus weekly events lists are supplied prior to guests' arrivals.
Recommended Places to Eat Out: 32 pubs within 7 miles! Also Carriages restaurant less than 2 miles away. Excellent themed restaurant based on pullman railway carriage. Biggin Hall country house hotel 300 yards away, four excellent course for just £20. Even the local YHA which is open to the public, serves really good value meals
